Athiya Deviyani

Hi! I'm Tia.

I am a second-year Masters student at Carnegie Mellon University pursuing an MS in Artificial Intelligence and Innovation. My research interests lie in trustworthy machine learning and natural language processing. I am currently looking for PhD positions starting in Fall 2023!

At CMU, I had the opportunity to conduct research and collaborate with Prof. Alan W. Black on a project involving text normalization for low-resource languages. I also worked with Prof. Maarten Sap to systematically survey social biases in text-to-image diffusion models. In 2021, I graduated top of my class with a high first from The University of Edinburgh with a BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. My undergraduate honors thesis on mitigating dataset bias in computer vision by artificially generating data from minority classes using GANs under the supervision of Prof. Ajitha Rajan received an outstanding thesis classification.

Last summer, I completed an applied machine learning research internship in the Search Quality team at Apple, where I implemented a GraphSAGE Graph Neural Network to suggest related questions for Siri search and web answers. Previously, I have worked as an intern at Goldman Sachs, Google, YouTube, Amazon, and JP Morgan.

The best way to contact me is through email (adeviyan [at] cs [dot] cmu [dot] edu) but feel free to hit me up on Twitter.
